The Terra Handpan – D Kurd | 9, 10 & 12 Notes

The Terra Handpan

Earthy Character. Refined Sound.

The Sonara Terra combines a warm, aged-bronze aesthetic with the expressive versatility of the D Kurd scale.

Its rich, resonant voice is designed for players who want an instrument that responds naturally to both delicate touch and more dynamic rhythmic playing. Individual notes remain defined, while their harmonics interact to create the layered resonance that gives the handpan its unmistakable depth.

Approachable for a first instrument yet expressive enough for accomplished players, the Terra is built to accompany your playing well beyond the fundamentals.

Premium Stainless Steel Construction

The Terra is crafted from high-quality stainless steel, selected for its acoustic response, sustain, durability, and resistance to corrosion.

Its precisely formed shell allows vibrations to travel naturally across the playing surface, helping produce clear fundamentals and rich harmonic content.

The distinctive bronze-toned finish gives each instrument a warm, understated character that complements the organic nature of the handpan.

D Kurd Scale

The Terra is tuned in D Kurd, one of the most versatile and widely appreciated handpan scales.

Deep lower tones provide the foundation, while the surrounding notes create an expressive melodic range that naturally lends itself to improvisation.

Because the notes are harmonically related, even relatively simple patterns can develop into cohesive musical phrases. More experienced players can take the same layout further through dynamics, polyrhythms, phrasing, and melodic development.

Choose Your Configuration

9 Notes — Pure & Intuitive
A focused layout that makes exploring rhythm and melody straightforward. An excellent introduction to the handpan and a strong choice for minimalist playing.

10 Notes — Balanced & Expressive
Additional melodic flexibility without making the playing surface unnecessarily complex. A versatile configuration for players looking to develop their technique.

12 Notes — Extended Range
A broader tonal palette designed for more elaborate melodies and compositions. Ideal for experienced players or anyone who wants greater musical range from a single instrument.

432 Hz or 440 Hz

The Terra is offered in two reference pitches, allowing you to choose according to your playing environment.

440 Hz — Standard Concert Pitch
The most practical choice when playing with other contemporary instruments, ensembles, or musicians.

432 Hz — Alternative Pitch
A slightly lower reference pitch often selected for solo playing, meditation, yoga, and immersive sound sessions.

Neither frequency is inherently "better"—the right choice depends primarily on personal preference and compatibility with the instruments you intend to play alongside.
